And these have received a considerable boost from current developments in artificial intelligence (AI). “Human interfaces” are still commonplace: in the popular internship, people manually transfer data from paper forms to IT systems. Cameras or scanners are used to capture the data, e.g., the license plates of cars in a parking garage or at a toll station. The images are passed to an AI, which extracts the necessary text from the image – in this case the license plate number – and stores it in a database with a time stamp.
